Brief History About Treasure Island

Condos for sale on Treasure IslandTreasure Island is located in Pinellas County Florida on a barrier island between the Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. It's home to about 7000 residents. This small area was originally settled back in 1528 and it got its name in the early at 20 century after several property owners attempted to boost sales of the properties being developed on the island by burying and then pretending to discover hidden treasure chests filled with treasure. The news of this discovery quickly spread and people began to call it "Treasure Island".

This small barrier island is only 3 feet in elevation and a storm in 1848 carved out John's Pass on the islands north then and split off to smaller islands, the Isle of Palm and the Isle of Capri. During the 1950s, treasure Island saw a surge in residential and hotel construction. Today, it has many condominium buildings, single-family homes, apartments, and resorts as well as a wealth of bars and restaurants in downtown. With its beautiful subtropical climate, treasure Island offers warm, humid summers and drier winters.

Things to Do on Treasure Island

Just a short distance from St. Petersburg and Tampa, Treasure Island offers a beautiful respite perfect for canoeing, kayaking, paddleboarding, or simply relaxing on the sugary sandy beaches. The treasure Bay resort and Marina is a great place to dock your boat and head in for a bite to eat. The pirate ship at John's Pass is a fun excursion as you leave landlubbers behind boarding the two-level, 46 foot US Coast Guard inspected Royal Conquest pirate ship at John's Pass.

There are also several places to eat on Treasure Islands such as Caddy's Treasure Island, the Pearl Restaurant, Sloppy Joe's on the Beach, and Middle Grounds Grill. However, this is just a small sampling at the intersection of the treasure Island Causeway and Gulf Boulevard you'll find about a dozen fantastic bars and restaurants. Because this is a tourist destination, many of these will offer some sort of unique location, food choice, or perk.
