More About Siesta Key Condos
Siesta Key is a beautiful barrier island between South Sarasota and the Gulf of Mexico. Located immediately south of downtown Sarasota and south of Lido Key, St. Armand's, and Bird Key, Siesta Key sits between Roberts Bay and the Gulf with a portion lying within the city boundary of Sarasota but the most in Its Own Census Designated Place in Sarasota County. It's part of the Bradenton Sarasota and Venice Metro area.
It's been known as many things over the years including Little Sarasota Key and Sarasota Key but the first attempts to develop it into something more than simply an offshoot of Sarasota came in 1907 when the Siesta Land Company platted the northern end of the Key as "Siesta on the Gulf" and dredged much of the bay and built docks. The only access to Siesta Key was by boat or ferry until the bridge connected to the mainland in 1917. It was later replaced in 1927 along with a second bridge located on the southern end of the Key. It was officially recognized as Siesta Key in 1952 and development has built out ever since. With several beaches, beautiful homes, and its own Chamber of Commerce, Siesta Key is that private getaway that a lot of people tend to forget about.
