Island Estates CondosIsland Estates Condos

Island Estates technically covers two islands in Clearwater Beach Florida, both sitting between Clearwater Beach and the barrier island and the mainland. These include Islands Estates and Diamond Isles, all accessible via the Clearwater Memorial Causeway or Highway 60, which runs from Clearwater to Clearwater Beach. Just north of the causeway are several man-made residential islands sitting within Pope Channel and Clearwater Harbor with Mandalay Channel between the barrier island and Island Estates. The Clearwater Jolley Trolley provides transportation up and down the beach and has since 1982. It currently runs to North Clearwater Beach and down to Sand Key, including Island Estates. Within the Island Estates area is the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, home of Winter, the bottlenose dolphin featured in the movie Dolphin Tail as well as a small grocery store and other services.

Island Estates History

To talk about the history of Island Estates you have to talk about the Intercoastal Waterway as a whole. This Florida waterway got its beginning more than a century ago as the natural outgrowth of an effort to develop an almost connected chain of creeks, rivers, lakes, and sounds along the Florida East Coast into one continuous waterway. Cities were built up along the barrier islands and currently, the waterway on the east side of Island Estates is all that remains of the original East Coast canal, with Island Estates being part of the mainland.

Dredging happened over the last century to create more residential communities and canals, property lots that have access to the canal and engineers excavated a new channel during the 1930s, bypassing the East Coast Canal on the west and carving out what is now known as Island Estates. This 262-acre landmass and about 2 1/2 miles in length were completed in 1935. Present-day Island Estates didn't actually build out homes until about 1967 when a 200 lot layout was approved by government authorities. In 1989, construction began and by 1991, several families took residents in the smaller neighborhoods. Nearly all the lots are sold in the Island Estates Neighborhood and residents have since taken over the Association currently built up since 2003.

Just about everything the Island Estates Community needs is within a short walking distance but Clearwater Beach is only a few minutes away with more shops and restaurants and downtown Clearwater with major shopping and services is no more than about 5 to 10 minutes. The most prominent landmark is the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, Florida's Marina life conservation center. It offers boat rides and guided tours, annual events, exhibits and demonstrations, and rescued animals.

This 11 story complex featured at 255 Dolphin Point boasts 123 condo units in studio, one, and two-bedroom units from 435 ft.² to 1250 ft.². Residents enjoy a swimming pool, fishing dock, Tiki tables, and barbecue area, and is a close distance to Clearwater Beach shops and restaurants.

Clipper Cove

Located at 400 Island Way, this complex features a variety of styles with several hundred units, a large heated swimming pool, spa, Tiki hut, state-of-the-art fitness room, men's and women's saunas, game room, 24-hour security, yacht club, and party room.

Sunwatch

Located at 670 Island Way, this building constructed in the 1990s features a variety of private and exclusive luxurious condominiums. this complex offers two, three, and four-bedroom units with two or three bathrooms, covered or open parking, two swimming pools, spa, fitness center, library, billiards room, business and clubroom, and drawing-room.

Horizon House

This collection of co-op condominiums at 31 Island Way offer some of the best views in the area. Built in 1962, this is one of the original buildings intended to be a hurricane shelter for the Clearwater Beach area. It boasts 15 stories with generously sized units featuring a variety of amenities such as 24-hour security, swimming pool, fitness centers, and more.

51 Island Way

Located at the same name of the building, this complex offers affordable properties under $200,000 with several layouts, 138 units, and 12 stories. Enjoy all the benefits of a higher-priced condominium with amenities that may fit better into your budget.

Windward Passage

This collection of 55 luxury condominiums on just five stories at 202 Windward Passage was built in 2007 featuring two, three, and four-bedroom floor plans from 2000 ft.² to 3300 ft.². Residents have a tropical swimming pool and spa, waterfront dock, Tiki tables, and clubroom, and prices start at about $600,000.

The Village on Island Estates

This private and quiet collection of 54 townhomes was built in 1982 ranging in price from $350,000-$500,000. It offers Mediterranean-style architecture in tropical landscaping with sizes from 1700 ft.² to 2000 ft.² and two and three-story townhomes available. Residents have a swimming pool, parking garage, boat slips and this is a pet-friendly complex.

650 Island Way

This eight-floor condominium features 64 units with two, three, and four-bedroom floor plans, boat docks, and in sizes from 1100 to 2700 ft.². Pets are allowed in this 1988 complex with boat slips and covered parking.

Island Walk

Located at 690 Island Way, the Island Walk complex was built in 1982 featuring 122 units on 11 floors. Residents have one and two-bedroom units from 950 ft.² to 1500 ft.². These are more affordable condominiums starting at about $150,000. Residents have boat slips, swimming pool options, spa, barbecue area, dock, tennis courts, and covered parking.

Majestic Point

Located at 200 Skiff Point, the Majestic Point condominium is one of the newest and most exclusive buildings on Island Estates. There are just 14 units with three or four-bedroom layouts from 1950 ft.² to 3800 ft.². This complex built in 2009 features a swimming pool, spa, outdoor lounge and barbecue area, rooftop cabana, boat slips, subterranean parking, and security gates.

Sea Island South

This 55+ community on Island Estates features a variety of layouts, several floor plans, and in prices from $300,000-$500,000. It offers up to 1800 ft.² of living space with eat-in kitchens, living and dining room combinations, community dock, swimming pool, and is truly a maintenance-free option for active adults.

610 Island Way

Built in 1987, this Island Estates condominium complex features six stories and a variety of amenities such as a community pool, boat slips, pet allowance, and a variety of utilities

Island Cay

While primarily a hotel on Clearwater Beach, there are a few occasional units for sale in this beautiful island hotel. With all the amenities of a four-star resort, Island Cay might be ideal.

Starboard Tower

Built in 1978 at 400 Island Way, this beautiful 17 floor and 184 unit complex feature Mandalay Bay channel views with a heated pool, fitness center, and two-bedroom, two-bath units.
