More on Island Estates
Island Estates is a quiet island neighborhood in Clearwater between Clearwater Beach and mainland Clearwater in Clearwater Bay. It's home to two distinct man-made islands, Diamond Isle and the main Island Estates. Each of these two islands are on their own keys, Big Mangrove Key, and Pasadees Key. It's home to the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, the largest landmark or icon in Island Estates.
On Big Mangrove Key or Diamond Isle, there are several condominiums overlooking Clearwater Beach and the ocean depending on the elevation of the structure. On the Clearwater Bay side, are residential single-family homes. Every home in Island Estates is waterfront in some form or fashion.
Most amenities are located on the main Island Estates or Pasadees Key close to the Clearwater Memorial Causeway with easy access to Clearwater Beach or downtown Clearwater. This is the only access point to Island Estates.
Island Estates Things To Do
Clearwater Marine Aquarium
The Clearwater Marine Aquarium is the primary landmark and attraction on Island Estates. This wonderful rescue and rehabilitation center is the ideal natural habitat for dolphins, sea turtles, white pelicans, and otters. Their staff and volunteers work every day to rescue marine life around the area and provide advanced and effective veterinarian care to maximize the opportunity to return any sick or injured animals to their natural habitat. Many animals come to the aquarium from an illness or severe injury and are found by local residents, fishermen, visitors, and park rangers. In addition to their rescue, rehab, and release program, they also provide animal care, specifically to Winter the dolphin, which cannot be released back into the wild due to a variety of reasons. However, the aquarium has rescued over 1200 sea turtles, monitored over 1700 unique native bird nests, and has rescued and released over 600 animals since 2010. From Manatee research to whale research, expeditions, educational programs, on and off-site stations, healthy habitats mobile classroom, and getting involved in the local wildlife, the Clearwater Marine Aquarium is not only a wonderful place to spend an afternoon, but you know that they're doing something good for the environment and the native wildlife.
Island Way Grill
The Island Way Grill is one of the first restaurants you find on Island Estates. They've been serving fresh seafood, hand-cut steaks, paired with beautiful sunsets on Island Estates for decades. From breakfast, lunch, fabulous dinners, delicious desserts, a unique sushi bar, and handmade cocktails, beer, and wine, this beautiful waterside dining experience will be the perfect place for any outing. Some of my favorites include the crab dip with house-made tortilla chips, grilled octopus, oysters Rockefeller, white cheddar mac & cheese, and their just caught local fish selection which changes weekly.
Windward Bar & Grille
Open for lunch and dinner, this "American Neighborhood Bar" prides itself on being the place where friends and neighbors gather to socialize, watch sports, celebrate birthdays, or simply relax in a clean, friendly, and safe environment. With great brunch on the weekends, delicious custom cocktails, and an outstanding menu, this is a great place to meet your other Island Estates Neighbors. Enjoy some of my favorites such as the Buffalo shrimp, roasted artichoke hearts, pork potstickers, pepperoni knots, grilled Mahi-Mahi, and fantastic handmade pizzas.
Other Services
There's also an IHOP, the UPS store, Publix supermarket at Island Village, a boutique, several services, the Market at Island Estates convenience store, Fifth Third Bank, and a gas station.
Of course, you're no more than 5 to 10 minutes from the beach on Clearwater Beach or downtown Clearwater with multiple shops, restaurants, amenities, entertainment options, and services.
